BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – The house of Abra’s grand old man – Don Quintin Paredes – in Bangued was declared a national historical site.
The inauguration and laying of the cornerstone is set on Feb. 23.
Descendants of the late Paredes are undertaking preparations for the historical event in partnership with the National Historical Institute, Philippine Information Agency and the Bangued local government unit.
The Senate approved on Dec. 12, 2012 Resolution 136 authored by Sen. Loren Legarda declaring the Paredes residence a national heritage in honor of the late Quintin Babila-Paredes.
Paredes championed the international cause for civil liberties, particularly the inherent right of every man to freedom, life and the pursuit of happiness.
Mayor Ryan Luna approved the laying of the cornerstone at the Paredes residence as the highlight of the Miki Festival of this capital town next month.
