MANILA, Philippines - Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte Jr. yesterday questioned the reported plan of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to extend the filing of certificates of candidacy in the province.
The Comelec set the filing of COCs nationwide from Oct. 1 to 5.
“What is so special about the bill to divide Camarines Sur with the creation of a new province that it would prompt the Comelec to extend the filing of certificates of candicacy in the province when it has not even passed muster on second reading in the Senate?” Villafuerte asked.
“The regular elections are less than seven months away. If the people of our province are to decide, let them decide first who they want their leaders to be because we are confident that their decision would also reflect their sentiment on whether they want our province to be divided or to remain as one,” he said.
