DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The mayor of Sarangani, Davao del Sur survived an ambush Thursday night in his hometown, police said.
Mayor Jerry Cawa was reportedly driving his multicab vehicle together with two security escorts when he was waylaid.
Cawa’s group had come from Barangay Gomtago and when they reached Barangay Batuganding, two men fired at them at around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Cawa and one of his security escorts, a certain Brigido Paglingon, escaped the ambush unscathed.
The mayor’s second aide, one Joefrey Mandod, was hit in the left arm and was immediately brought to a hospital in General Santos City.
Certain quarters believe that politics could have motivated the ambush.
