BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines – The Santiago City government in Isabela now prohibits cigarette smoking in public places and violators face stiff penalties, including imprisonment.
The city government said the ordinance practically outlaws smoking in public places such as premises of government offices, restaurants, public markets, transport terminals, playgrounds, churches, hospitals, youth centers, elevators, stairways, and gasoline stations.
“Such efforts are part of our long-term vision to transform our city into a wholesome place for children and health-conscious citizenry,” said City Mayor Amelita Navarro.
