LUCENA CITY, Philippines – In spite of the suspension of the issuance of permit to operate small town lottery (STL) contracts two months ago by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, various outlets are still reportedly continuing with their operation, including one in Quezon province.
In Quezon, three STL draws are allegedly being done everyday, even during holidays, by Pirouette Corp., which has been questioned for its legality to operate.
A source from the Quezon provincial legislative office said Pirouette Corp., which launched its STL business on Feb. 28, 2006, still has not renewed its permit to operate even after resuming operations last July.
But a source, who asked not to be named, disclosed the company’s permit has been extended until March 2013.
On the other hand, the STL operator said they have been allowed to extend their operation from June 21, 2010 until 2013 through a resolution (No. 2142) signed by the PCSO board of directors under former general manager Rosario Uriarte.
There are 34 gaming firms nationwide, including Pirouette Corp. managed by Jose Francisco Gonzales.
