CAMP RUPERTO KANGLEON PALO, Leyte , Philippines – The extra-judicial killings of prominent personalities continue to occur in Northern Samar, this time victimizing the provincial legal officer.
Senior Superintendent Eusebio Mejos, provincial police director, said lawyer Eduardo Potot was shot dead at around 5 p.m. Monday near the entrance gate of his rented house in Barangay Dalakit in Catarman, just a walking distance from the provincial capitol.
Quoting witnesses, police said Potot was on board an owner-type jeep when two motorcycle-riding men shot him at least five times.
Police recovered five empty 9-mm and caliber .45 shells.
Mejos said probers were still clueless on the killing.
Last September, Fr. Cecelio Lucero, parish priest of Catubig town and a known human rights advocate, was killed in an ambush.
