Segovia is new 2nd Infantry Division chief

MANILA, Philippines - A decorated general, who led troops in intensified operations against communist rebels in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region, was named as the new chief of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division.

Brig. Gen. Jorge Segovia, chief of the Armed Forces’ Joint Operations Center, presided over the turnover at Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal yesterday.

In 2007, Segovia, a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class 1980, served as spokesman for military operations against Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels in Maguindanao and Lanao del Norte.

He replaced Brig. Gen. Florante Martinez, who was designated as officer-in-charge following the appointment of Maj. Gen. Roland Detabali as chief of the Southern Luzon Command. – James Mananghaya
