National Grid tower bombed

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A tower of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte toppled when two explosives strapped into it went off Monday night.

Authorities said the incident resulted in the shutdown of the Abaga-Aurora line, rendering several areas in northern Mindanao without power.

Police said a number of explosives were planted in the tower in Upper Paiton but only two went off.

An emergency restoration system was immediately put in place to bring back power to the affected areas.

Police said similar explosives were also earlier found in a power transmission tower in Iligan City. – Edith Regalado, Lino de la Cruz
