Acetylene members arrested
BALANGA CITY , Philippines – Three alleged members of Cordillera-based Acetylene Gang operating in Central Luzon were arrested yesterday while reportedly “casing” a commercial bank and a commercial house in the upland village of Bagong Silang Bliss, this City.
Superintendent Benjamin Silo Jr., Balanga City police chief, identified the suspects as Gilford Tanglod, 19, native and resident of Bagnen, Bauko; Ricky Mariano, 21, of Lower Pinget, Baguio City; and Nelson Patiti, 24, of Nacagang, Sagada, all of Mountain Province and claimed to be construction workers.
Police received a complaint from a resident that the group held up a businesswoman. A patrol team led by Inspector Dennis Orbista collared the resting suspects in a secluded house owned by Salvador Basi, also a native of Mountain Province.
Basi reportedly tried to explain with the arresting police team that the suspects were all construction workers in a road project in Mariveles town when welding equipment were found by police inside the suspects’ backpacks kept in a cabinet.
Police recovered two acetylene tanks, one acetylene gauge, one set of acetylene hose torch, two electric drills, two bolt cutters, crow bar, two five-kilogram LPG tanks, three flashlights, one yard dark linen and a map of Balanga City commercial district.
The suspects were reportedly involved in theft of several pawnshops, internet cafés and rural banks in the province in the past several years. – Raffy Viray
