MANILA, Philippines — An eight-car electric multiple unit trainset for the North-South Commuter Railway or NSCR has arrived, the Department of Transportation announced yesterday.

The DOTr said this is the fourth trainset to be used for the NSCR Malolos-Tutuban segment.

“It is currently undergoing the importation process of the Bureau of Customs and is expected to be brought to the Malanday depot in Valenzuela,” DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said.

He added that the new trainset was procured from Japan Transport Engineering Co. and Sumitomo Corp.

The DOTr aims to finish the Bulacan phase of the NSCR, which stretches from Valenzuela to Malolos, by December 2027.

The NSCR system is a 147-kilometer railway network with 35 stations connecting Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon.
