78-year-old farmer kills wife

-

BINALONAN, Pangasinan – A 78-year-old farmer suspected to be suffering from a mental disorder hacked dead his own wife, already his third victim, around 3:30 p.m. Friday in Barangay Pasileng Sur here.

SPO1 Jun Cuiliao, investigator-on-case, told The STAR yesterday that found dead with multiple stab wounds was Dionisia Soriano, 75.

The suspect who is the victim’s husband was identified as Alejandro Soriano who is detained at the town jail here.

The crime happened inside their son’s house, about 200 meters away from the residence of the couple. When their son arrived, he saw his mother sprawled dead while his father returned to their own home. The couple’s three other children are working in Spain, Culiao said.

In a follow-up investigation conducted by Culiao yesterday, he found out that sometime between 1967 to1969, Alejandro hacked dead a relative. Then in the 1990s, he again hacked dead another relative.

In both cases, Alejandro was not sued as the cases were amicably settled by the relatives.

Culiao advised the family to place Alejandro in a mental hospital as he could harm again other people once released. – Eva Visperas

Passengers stranded at Sorsogon port

LEGAZPI CITY – The Office of Civil Defense said that some 336 passengers including 152 trucks and seven small vehicles are stranded at the Matnog port in Sorsogon due to the suspension of trips by roll-on-roll-off vessels plying the Matnog-Allen (Samar) route due to inclement weather.

Bernardo Alejandro, OCD regional director, said the suspension of roro travel was due to the surge of the northeast monsoon which affected the various seaboards in the country like Southern Luzon.

Bernardo said that due to sea condition which ranges from rough to very rough due to winds blowing from 55 to 68 kph, waves could rise from 3.7 to 5.0 meters.

As a result, small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger vessels are at risk from strong winds and big waves. – Celso Amo
