LTO Olongapo posts P49.19-M collection in 2007

-

OLONGAPO CITY – The District Land Transportation Office in Olongapo City has collected a total of to P49,194,154.85 in revenues in 2007 surpassing its previous year’s collection of  P47,547,385.70.

This was disclosed yesterday by LTO District head Reynaldo Cortez adding, in partnership with other government agencies, the business sector, civil society and other stakeholders, LTO-Olongapo is determined to put order on the road, licensed quality drivers and register roadworthy and emission-compliant motor vehicles.

Cortez said for the past year, his office has formed a mobile registration unit that provides inspection and smoke emission testing to “For Hire” tricycles in the nearby municipalities of Subic, Castillejos and San Marcelino. This unit aims to encourage the drivers and operators of the motor vehicles to register on time and save some money in the registration expenses being incurred by the operators.

This project enhanced the registration and collection capability of this office. This year’s number of registered motor vehicles increased by 2,383 units from last years 31,390 units as compared to 33,773 units this year. The number of motor vehicles registered per transaction also increased from 45,620 units to 56,284 units having a difference of 10,664 units or 23.4 percent higher.

The office also conducted some seminars with the different transport groups, private institutions and most recently the local Traffic Law Enforcement Unit of this city to disseminate useful information on how to be a safe and defensive driver, and also to be aware of the traffic signs, rules and regulations being implemented  by this office.

The increase in the number of units registered this year is made possible through the continuous law enforcement operations conducted this year which have apprehended 5,413 not only traffic violators but also smoke-belching vehicles compared to last year’s 4,662 or an increase of 751 violators.

For 2008, this office is committed to the rationalization of land transport services and facilities and implement effectively the various transportation laws, rules and regulations, Cortez said.   – Ric Sapnu
