LEGAZPI CITY – Albay Gov. Joey Salceda has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels yesterday morning after days of continuous heavy rains has caused landslides in Cagraray Island and in the town of Manito as well as floodings in low-lying areas in this city and at the Libon-Pantao Road network.
Salceda has immediately ordered the Provincial Disaster Management Office (PDMO) to closely monitor the flood-prone areas as well as advised residents in low-lying areas to seek higher ground if heavy rains continues. The governor has also ordered Cedric Daep, PDMO executive officer, to check the report on the landside on Barangay Mataas in Cagraray Island and in Barangay Malobago in Manito town.
The continuous heavy rains was spawned by a low pressure area 30 kms east of Northern Mindanao and aggravated by the northwest monsoon. Flooding in this city was reported at the national road fronting the Aquinas University in Barangay Rawis and at the national road leading to this city at Barangay Cabangan here.
Bernardo Alejandro IV, regional director of the Office of Civil Defense based at Camp Simeon Ola, said flooding was also reported at the Maharlika Highway in San Fernando town, Camarines Sur. Alejandro added that the flooding did not disprupt the flow of traffic along the national highway.
