Provincial administrator Alex Ocampo, touted as the “little governor” for being the alter ego of Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo, was asleep with his family when the man peppered his bungalow in Barangay Suklayin with M-16 Armalite bullets at around
Senior Superintendent Romeo Teope, provincial police director, told The STAR in a phone interview from Sarangani province where he attended a seminar, that they were clueless on the attacker and his motive.
Teope said though that the attacker might have a grudge against Ocampo or merely wanted to harass him.
Police said the gunfire hit the windshield of Ocampo’s Mitsubishi Space Gear and a television set inside his home.
Teope said a neighbor of Ocampo saw the motorcycle-riding gunman but failed to jot down the license plate.
Ocampo said he had no idea on who could the attacker be, adding that he could not recall anyone who could hold a grudge against him.
Angara-Castillo provided Ocampo with two security bodyguards amid threats to his life.
Ocampo, however, said the incident would not deter him from discharging his functions at the provincial capitol. He admitted that his family has pressured him to quit his job following the incident.
Ocampo has been the provincial administrator since 2004 when Angara-Castillo first won the governorship.
He is considered one of the most trusted aides of the governor, who also chairs the Central Luzon Investments Coordinating Council.
