2 soldiers hurt in ambush

BACOLOD CITY – Two soldiers were wounded in an ambush by 40 suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Calatrava, northern Negros yesterday, authorities said.

The victims, Pfc. Anacleto Jabonete of the 33rd Division Reconnaissance Company and a certain Cpl. Ameliorin of the 15th Infantry Battalion, and their colleagues were on their way to a village for a special operation when they were ambushed, said Maj. Nathaniel Villasor, civil-military operations officer of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade.

Although outnumbered, the soldiers fought it out for more than an hour, Villasor said.         – Antonieta Lopez
