Dolphin found in San Fabian

-
DAGUPAN CITY — Another wounded dolphin was brought to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) office here after it was found along the coast in Barangay Nibaliw Narvarte in San Fabian town yesterday.

Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the BFAR’s research center, said the mammal is a Rissu’s Dolphin (Grampus griesus).

The mammal, the fifth largest of the Delphinidae family, was brought to a circular tank at the center and was given first aid. It was the 13th dolphin that beached along the Lingayen Gulf since 2000.

Rosario said the mammal has a bullet wound on its chin and is weak. It measures about 10 feet and three inches (3.13944 meters) in length and has a circumference of six feet and six inches (2.01 meters). — Cesar Ramirez, Eva Visperas
