TANAUAN CITY Thirty-six ammunition cartridges for 81-mm and 60-mm mortars contained in three sacks as well as high-explosive rocket warheads were seized during a raid on an abandoned nipa hut in this Batangas city last Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Maj. Augusto de la Peña, public information officer of the Philippine Air Force, said a joint team of the PAFs 740th Combat Group and the Batangas police swooped down on the abandoned house in Barangay Banjo East following a tip from concerned residents.
"We are still in the process of establishing (their) ownership," De la Peña said.
Only the military, however, has high-explosive rocket warheads, including the 2.75-inch ones.
The ammunition cartridges and rocket warheads have been turned over to the bomb disposal unit at Fernando Airbase for safekeeping. Arnell Ozaeta, Jaime Laude
