Pro-Davide group seeks student support

CEBU CITY The Citizens for Judicial Independence (CJI), a group that strongly condemns the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. is set to intensify its advocacy by gathering support from the different schools in the city.
Regional Trial Court Judge Gabriel Ingles, one of the convenors of the group, said they will conduct an information drive in different schools here starting this week to inform students of the real issue behind the impeachment move.
Ingles said that through the information drive, they can gather more supporters from the student sector and eventually strengthen their group.
The CJI labeled the impeachment complaint as a congressional conspiracy to intimidate the Supreme Court.
The group claimed that the congressmen who signed the impeachment complaint were mostly those who derive financial sustenance from their bosses to support their political careers.
Ingles believes that the various activities they mounted last week to block the impeachment have contributed to creating a unified public opinion on the issue and influenced the withdrawal of some signatures from the complaint. Freeman News Service
