BAGUIO CITY Wrecked cars and wasted lives.
Three teenage girls were killed and three others were critically injured during a drag race that ended in tragedy at the Loakan airport here early Monday morning.
A similar incident happened last May, killing two students of the E-College of Systems Technologies Institute here.
This prompted the police Aviation Security Group and the Air Forces Tactical Operations Group 1 to tighten security at the airport. But their officials could not explain why Mondays drag race went unnoticed.
Police identified the three fatalities as Marciel Aquino, 17; Jing Jing Juan, 16; and Gloria Apilado, 17, all students of the University of Baguio.
The three were killed when the Toyota Corolla they were riding in and driven by Aldwin Sombrito, 21, fell into a ravine.
Sombrito was seriously injured, along with the two occupants of the other car, a Honda Civic its driver Raymond Simsim and his still unidentified companion.
Police said the two groups met at a disco house and decided to race at the airport at about 1 a.m. Monday.
