Provident fund for BoC workers up

Customs Commissioner Titus Villanueva signed yesterday an administrative order allowing the establishment of a provident fund for the bureau’s employees.

Villanueva, in a speech during the first general assembly of the Bureau of Customs’ Employees Association, said the fund aims to provide additional benefits and lending facilities to BoC personnel.

Villanueva, who will retire on March 13, said the provident fund, as envisioned under Administrative Order No. 279, will be derived from the balance of service fees paid by public and private agencies which avail themselves of the bureau’s procurement, payroll deduction and other services.

He, however, said nothing shall preclude the board of trustees from researching for and working out legal sources of funding to widen the privileges and benefits that the fund may provide.
