Special polls set today in Abra, Lanao Norte

TINED, Abra — A combined force of 300 police and military personnel has been dispatched to this remote town to provide security and help oversee special elections scheduled today.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is also holding special polls in at least two towns in Lanao del Norte where tension still reigns in many areas.

Monday’s elections in this town were reset after the Comelec declared a failure of elections due to tropical storm "Crising" that rendered roads leading to this town impassable and the reported sighting of suspected terrorists in the area.

There are some 3,000 voters here. The mayorship is a toss-up between Mayor Clarence Benwaren and Resty Eduarte. — Ave Bello, Lino de la Cruz
