SB19's historic Lollapalooza set earns Senate resolution
MANILA, Philippines — A Senate resolution was filed Friday, July 31, seeking to honor SB19's historic appearance at the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.
Sen. Bam Aquino filed Senate Resolution 545 to acknowledge the P-pop group's milestone stint at one of the world's biggest music festivals.
“SB19's performance at Lollapalooza marked a significant milestone for Filipino artists, demonstrating the growing international recognition of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and expanding the presence of Philippine music on one of the world's foremost festival stages,” Aquino said.
“Through their artistry, professionalism, and unwavering pride in their Filipino identity, SB19 has become an inspiring example of how Filipino artists can serve as cultural ambassadors, promoting Philippine culture and fostering greater appreciation for the Philippines among audiences around the world,” he added.
Composed of Pablo, Stell, Justin, Josh and Ken, the quintet brought the house down with their 48-minute set at the Allianz stage on the afternoon of July 30 in Chicago (July 31, 3 a.m. Manila time).
SB19 sang a handful of their many hits, including the “Dungka,” “Dam,” and “Gento.” They also sang two of their notable ballads, “Mapa,” and “Wakas.”
The P-pop group also introduced two new songs, “Lawless” and “Emoji,” a collaboration track with Taiwanese singer Jolin. They also teased their cover of the Francis M classic rap song “Mga Kababayan,” which is a sound track of DreamWorks’ Filipino animated movie “Forgotten Island.”
SB19 closed their set with a crowd pleaser and favorite, “Crimzone,” leaving the Allianz crowd on a high even after the five members have exited the stage.
“We never imagined we’d one day perform on a global stage and represent the Philippines. Yesterday was proof that dreams grow bigger when you believe in yourself and the people who believe in you. This win isn’t just for us. It’s for everyone who believed in us,” SB19 wrote on their social media accounts.
Last month, SB19 was unveiled as Philippine tourism ambassadors by the Department of Tourism, a role they share with their fellow P-pop sensation BINI.
The boys’ next big gig is the 25th anniversary of the Summer Sonic Festival in Japan on August 14 and 15.
