'Unmarry' actor Tom Rodriguez surprised by MMFF win
MANILA, Philippines — Tom Rodriguez is grateful for his Metro Manila Film Festival 2025 trophy for playing the rich husband to Angelica Panganiban in “Unmarry.”
Various clips showing the awards night held last night in Makati shows Tom surprised when he was called as the winner in the Best Supporting Actor category. He was up against Cedrick Juan (“Manila’s Finest”), Will Ashley (“Bar Boys: After School”), Zaijian Jaranilla (“I’mPerfect”), and Joey Marquez (“I’mPerfect”).
Tom dedicated his award to his non-showbiz wife and son, whom he called his “biggest cheerleaders” during his acceptance speech. He also thanked his producers, manager Popoy Caritativo, and the film’s director, Jeffrey Jeturian.
The actor posted his winning photo from last night’s ceremony on Instagram, where he mentioned the people he forgot to thank during his acceptance speech.
“I’m still waking up grateful… I honestly didn’t expect the nomination last night, much less the win. In the rush and emotion of the moment, I missed thanking a few people who are deeply integral to my work process,” Tom said.
He proceeded to thank the people behind him, his handler Joey Rada and his personal assistant Arnil Derotas, whom he called his “safety net” through the years.
“Last night was overwhelming in the best way. But how I started my day is how I will choose to end it... with intentional gratitude. To everyone who continues to show up for the work, maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyo,” Tom wrote.
MMFF wins. “Unmarry” also stars Zanjoe Marudo, Solenn Heussaff, and Eugene Domingo.
Apart from Tom’s acting nod, “Unmarry” also picked up several awards at the 51st MMFF. These include Second Best Picture, Best Director for Jeturian, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Float (co-winner with “Manila’s Finest), and Breakthrough Performance for child star Zack Sibug.
