MANILA, Philippines - Two brothers were arrested for selling motorcycles as part of a new scam, police said Friday.
Ruel San Pedro, 38, and his brother Roberto, 33, were charged Friday after their arrest on Feb. 14 for selling motorcycles without proper documentation.
The Valenzuela City Police received a tip that a motorcycle stolen in the city last January was being sold in the brothers’ shop in Navotas.
Six other motorcycles, all without proper documents, were found on sale at the shop, according to Valenzuela police chief Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento.
Ruel said they work with people who would apply for a motorcycle loan and report the motorcycle they bought as stolen days later, Armamento said.
Ruel said the owners of the motorcycles have “contacts” in the lending institution who expedite the processing of the loan.
