BJMP execs sued for ‘violating’ Andrea Rosal’s rights

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) were charged before the Pasig City prosecutor’s office yesterday for allegedly violating the rights of Andrea Rosal who lost her daughter after giving birth.

Charged were jail warden Senior Inspector Ellen Barrios, Senior Inspector Crisyrel Awe and BJMP resident physician Jaime Claveria Jr.

Members of the Free Andrea Rosal Movement and their supporters staged a protest rally in front of the Pasig court to demand the immediate release of Rosal.

They demanded that concerned government agencies be held liable for the death of her daughter.

The group said Rosal was unlawfully transferred from the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) to the BJMP facility in Taguig City on June 4.

Rosal is the daughter of the late New People’s Army spokesman Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal.

Pastor Gil Sediarin, convener of the Free Andrea Rosal Movement, said the respondents violated the rights of Rosal when she was taken out of the hospital.

Sediarin said members of the BJMP stormed PGH and insisted on her  transfer without a court order.

“Her companions were barred from using their cell phones and held inside the room. Her lawyers were not informed about her transfer,” he said.

The group also berated Awe for allegedly manhandling Rosal.

She claimed that Awe and her companions barged into her room, handcuffed and forced her into a waiting ambulance.

The group asked the Philippine Regulatory Commission and the Philippine Medical Association to impose disciplinary actions on Claveria over his treatment of Rosal.
