Araneta employee killed in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines - A man reported to be an employee of businessman Gregorio Araneta was killed in Tala, Caloocan City yesterday morning.

Danny Mago, who was alleged to be a community relation officer of Araneta, was killed in Tala shortly before noon, according to initial reports reaching the Caloocan City hall.

The reports came in while Mayor Oscar Malapitan was meeting with residents of Pangarap Village, who had been complaining that “they were being harassed by armed men of Araneta.” 

“He (Araneta) is claiming that we are informal settlers and he has a title to the lands that we own. We have been living there for so long and all we want is to live peacefully,” said a barangay official, who asked not to be named.

The official said Mago had been receiving death threats prior to the attack.

No police official was available for comment on Mago’s slay but Malapitan vowed to look into the complaint of the residents.
