Suspected drug gang chief nabbed

MANILA, Philippines - A man accused of being a drug gang leader was arrested in a raid in Quezon City yesterday for allegedly kidnapping his nephew and another person.

Nasrudin Riga was arrested at Fairmont Subdivision and his nephew, a minor, was rescued by police officers of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Riga has a standing arrest warrant for kidnapping with robbery in Isabela and was charged with being a leader of a gang involved in drug trafficking, CIDG director Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong said.

In a report to Magalong, CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit head Chief Inspector Calvin Cauig said the arrest was the result of a weeklong surveillance after receiving reports on Riga’s presence in the area.
