MANILA, Philippines - A council that will oversee the integration of all programs and projects for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community is set to be created in Quezon City.
Mayor Herbert Bautista recently signed an order for the creation of the Quezon City Pride Council that would spearhead education campaigns on gay issues and concerns.
The new body will conduct training and livelihood programs for the gay community in coordination with various local and national government agencies.
During yesterday’s project launching at the city hall, Quezon City Pride Council chairman television and movie director Soxie Topacio expressed optimism that the council would be able to address the issues and concerns of the gay community.
Bautista’s chief of staff Aldrin Cuña said Quezon City is the first local government unit to create an agency for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders.
The city council earlier passed an ordinance creating a protection center for victims of gender-based violence, abused women and children, and members of the gay community.
