Rob suspect slain in Tondo shootout

MANILA, Philippines - Police officers from the Manila Police District’s Station 2 killed a suspected robber in a shootout in Port Area, Manila Friday night.

Investigators said Joy Cortez, 19, was walking along Road 10 near the corner of Zaragosa street when an unidentified man, whose age was placed between 19 and 23, blocked her path and robbed her at around 11:30 p.m.

The man fled toward Del Pan Bridge after the robbery but Cortez sought help from a patrol team headed by Police Officer 3 Christopher Jacinto.

Jacinto and his team gave chase and shouted at the suspect to surrender. The suspect allegedly started shooting at the police officers, who retaliated.

Road 10 is notorious among law enforcers for unsolved robberies and other petty crimes, some of them by “jumper boys” who steal goods from trucks and other vehicles passing through the area.
