Manila, Philippines - Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Mario de la Vega yesterday cautioned the public when buying vehicles online after recovering a stolen car and two stolen motorcycles advertised on two popular trading websites.
The QCPD recovered Rolando Yu’s Honda Civic (UGL-441) July 31. Yu reported that he saw his missing car while he was checking the www.ayosdito.ph website. He said the car was being sold for P180,000.
Police Officer 3 Dennis Telen said Yu’s Civic is on the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) hold order list. He said Yu reported that a friend borrowed his car but never returned it. Telen said Yu’s friend already died.
Police officers recovered the Civic from the person who was selling it online. The seller claimed he bought the car from another person, who Telen said was able to obtain an original receipt and certificate of registration from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Police officers also recovered two stolen motorcycles that were being sold on www.sulit.com.ph.
The QCPD advised buyers to go to the LTO and the HPG to check if the vehicle is stolen.
