Businessman dead, wife hurt in Pasig shooting

MANILA, Philippines - A businessman and his wife were shot by an unidentified attacker in Barangay San Miguel, Pasig City yesterday morning.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona said they are investigating the background of victim Ronaldo Sison, 42, and his wife, Elenita, 42, to determine the motive behind the attack. Ronaldo was declared dead on arrival at the Medical City and Elenita is being treated at the same hospital.

He said the Sisons met with someone regarding a business venture and were waiting at the corner of Mercedes street and Market Avenue in Barangay San Miguel when the attack happened at around 7 a.m.

“After the meeting, the couple were waiting for somebody in their vehicle when the suspects arrived on a motorcycle,” said Cardona.

Two traffic enforcers said they were manning their post at the intersection when the back rider got off the motorcycle, approached the Sisons’ Mitsubishi Adventure and shot the couple until his handgun ran out of bullets. The gunman returned to the motorcycle, whose driver sped off and nearly hit traffic enforcer Rex San Agustin.

San Agustin said the motorcycle sported a “for registration” license plate. Witnesses said the gunman wore a baseball cap to cover his face while the driver wore a helmet.

Cardona said they are checking if the surveillance camera installed at a gasoline station near the crime scene caught the attack on video.
