Las Piñas marks 6th Parol Festival

MANILA, Philippines - Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar spearheaded the annual Parol Festival, which attracted participants from all barangays in the city.

“The Parol Festival is a much-awaited event, Las Piñeros take time out from their busy Yuletide schedule to participate and show off the unique talents and craftsmanship of their respective barangays,” said Villar.

The annual lantern-making competition, held at Bulwagang Ezekiel Moreno, started six years ago to showcase the craftsmanship of the parol makers of Las Piñas.

“My office and the Villar Foundation continue to support the city’s lantern-makers, so that parol-making will live on as the city’s cultural heritage. The third generation of parol-makers are making that happen,” he added.

The grand prize winner in this year's contest received P20,000 in cash. The second and third prize winners received 15,000 and 10,000 each, respectively. All the participants also received P1,000.

On top of awarding the winning barangays in the lantern-making competition, all the 20 barangays of Las Piñas were awarded a motorcycle patrol unit each.
