NBI seizes fake cosmetics

MANILA, Philippines - More than half a million pesos worth of fake cosmetic products were seized by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation during a raid in an establishment in Quezon City last Thursday afternoon, the bureau said yesterday.

Agent on case Special investigator III Isagani Illescas Jr., of the Intellectual Property Rights Division, said NBI agents were armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Nina Antonio-Valenzuela, of the  Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28, when they raided Izial Chemiehausen Corp. located at No. 48 Magsaysay Avenue, Doña Faustina Subdivision, San Bartolome Novaliches, Quezon City around 1:50 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Charges of violation of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 (trademark infringement) and Section 168 in relation to Section 170 (unfair competition) of RA 8293 are being readied against the owner of the establishment.

The agents confiscated from the establishment filled and empty containers and jars of cosmetic products bearing unauthorized reproductions and colorful imitations of “Golden Fabulouz” trademark and logo owned by Span Promotions and Marketing Inc. The seized items were estimated at P550,000.

The NBI said the raid was conducted after a complaint was filed by Eduardo Ortiz for and in behalf of the Golden Fabulouz International Corp.             – Sandy Araneta
