MANILA, Philippines - A group of 20 drunk men tried to board a passing delivery truck along C-3 Road in Caloocan City Thursday night, attacking its driver and a police officer who tried to rescue him.
Police said the incident happened at around 7 p.m. Thursday. Truck driver Armando Efa, 27, said he was traveling along C-3 Road with helper Dante de la Peña when the suspects flagged him down and he obliged.
Efa said he was surprised when all of a sudden, one of the suspects, reeking of alcohol and armed with a knife, clambered aboard the truck and tried to stab him for no apparent reason.
Although wounded in the arm, Efa managed to jump out of the truck and run for his life but was chased by the knife-wielder’s companions.
Efa ran straight to the nearest police station – Police Community Precinct 7 along C-3 Road near the corner of A. Mabini street – and sought help. Police Officer 1 Joy Alcoriza, 27, responded but was soon ganged upon by the suspects, some of whom then hurled stones at the police station’s glass windows.
Alcoriza asked for assistance from other police officers from the precinct, the Special Weapons and Tactics unit and the Mobile Group, and arrested Florencio Crisostomo, 35; Marvin Domingo, 30; Percival Crisostomo, 29, and Dennis Crisostomo, 30, all neighbors and relatives in Don Benito and Rillantes streets, Caloocan City.
Police said the suspects’ 16 unidentified companions escaped.
The arrested suspects were detained at the police jail as appropriate charges were being readied against them.
