JV vows to stop GMA plans for Charter change

MANILA, Philippines - Outgoing San Juan City Mayor Joseph Victor Ejercito has vowed to be the biggest stumbling block of President Arroyo in the next Congress, especially in efforts to effect Charter change (Cha-cha).

“I will closely watch President Arroyo, once she makes it in the next Congress, and see to it that she and her allies would not push for Cha-Cha,” said Ejercito during the induction Sunday of officers of the Metro-East Rizal Press Organization (MERPO) in Club Filipino in Greenhills.

Mrs. Arroyo will run in the second district of Pampanga against electronic engineer Feliciano Serrano (independent) and street parliamentarian Adonis Francisco Quiampao of the Liberal Party.

Ejercito is running unopposed for the lone district of San Juan City in the coming May elections. He seeks to replace incumbent Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, who opted to temporarily retire from politics after finishing his third and last term.

In his speech, Ejercito, a son of former President Joseph Estrada by actress Guia Gomez, thanked MERPO officers and members for their full support during his nine years as mayor of San Juan City.

Gomez will run in her son’s stead against three political opponents.   – Non Alquitran
