Bicol relief caravan arrives in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A Bicol caravan, composed of local government units (LGUs), organizations, and the private sector, arrived last night in Manila from Legazpi City, Albay to bring relief goods to storm “Ondoy” victims.

Spearheaded by the “Ako Bicol” Foundation, the caravan brought fire and dump trucks, goods, brooms, dredging machines, and bobcat.

Ako Bicol chair and founder Zaldy Co said the caravan is the Bicolanos’ small way of reciprocating the kindness and generosity of Manileños when Legazpi City was hit by calamities in the past, especially typhoon “Milenyo” in 2006.

Other target beneficiaries of the “Bicol Caravan” are some 2,800 families in Marikina, Cainta, Rizal, Calamba, Laguna and Novaliches, Quezon City.               – Jose Rodel Clapano
