An 18-year-old boy was shot dead Wednesday night by a group of teenagers who first beat him up after he confronted them because their friends allegedly scratched his girlfriend’s face the night before.
Michael Estoye, 18, was declared dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center for gunshot wounds he sustained in the right arm and torso.
Three of the four suspects are minors, except for 19-year-old Chester Tan. They were arrested by village watchmen of Barangay Bagong Silangan immediately after the killing.
Police Officer 2 Joycelyn Marcelo said the incident happened at around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Bagong Silangan, which the victim frequently visits because his girlfriend is a resident in the area.
The four suspects – all of whom are out-of-school youths who said they were not part of any gang – were turned over to the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, where they are currently detained.
Talking to reporters yesterday afternoon, the suspects insisted it was the victim who started the brawl. – Reinir Padua
