DOLE, Caloocan offer livelihood aid for poor

The Department of Labor and Employment and the Caloocan City government are providing financial assistance to help local urban poor groups create sustainable livelihood projects.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri said the Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Mahihirap project aims to enhance earning capabilities of urban poor residents.

He said target beneficiaries are also expected to generate job opportunities in their respective communities apart from improving their members’ standard of living.

Echiverri said Raymundo Agravante, DOLE-National Capital Region (NCR) director, has recently distributed at least P200,000 assistance to four urban poor groups in the city for their livelihood projects.

Dante Esteban, the local Labor and Industrial Relations Office (LIRO) chief, said the initial beneficiaries were the Samahang Nagkakaisang Vendors sa Langaray, CATAS Operators Association of Senior Citizens in Camarin, Malayang Samahan ng mga Manggagawa sa Barangay Caybiga and the Samahang Pangkabuhayan ng Barangay 170.

Esteban said LIRO is providing training, business advice, social protection and networking services to the program’s beneficiaries.   – Pete Laude
