A bomb threat at a school in Quezon City caused policemen to rush to its campus before dawn yesterday.
Because the threat did not specify in which part of Miriam College the supposed bomb was placed, authorities had to search the entire campus, said Superintendent Oscar Palisoc, commander of the Quezon City Police District-Station9.
Inspector Arnulfo Franco, chief of the QCPD’s Explosives and Ordnance Division, said they did not find any improvised explosive device after 30 minutes of searching.
Franco said it was a good thing that the bomb scare happened before dawn and not during the day as it may have created panic among the students.
Franco said Cynthia Morales, head of Miriam College’s administration office, received the bomb threat through a text message at past 1 a.m. yesterday.
The text message stated: “May bomba na naipasok sa loob ng Miriam (A bomb that has been slipped into the Miriam College campus.)”
According to Franco, they will trace the cellular phone number that sent the text message to Morales.
Franco said he also advised school authorities to tighten security measures at the campus.
But Palisoc said that as of yesterday afternoon, the school had yet to request additional security.
