Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri’s program for curbing local unemployment has been recognized as a model for other local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) during a regional conference held last week.
Dante Esteban, concurrent Labor and Industrial Relations Office (LIRO) and Public Employment Services Office (PESO) chief, presented Echiverri’s employment program before the 17 public employment managers from other parts of Metro Manila.
The objective of the meeting of PESO chiefs was to share best employment practices, establish an effective network for job exchange purposes and strengthen the provision of employment facilitation assistance.
The activity was also in preparation for the 8th National PESO Congress to be held in Butuan City on Sept. 18.
Ben Alegre, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) chief in Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela) said Caloocan’s numerous employment programs have “efficiently exceeded their objectives” and boosted the overall rating of public employment offices in the National Capital Region. – Pete Laude
