Freak flyover accident kills 2

Two people on a motorcycle were killed in a freak traffic accident on the EDSA-Santolan flyover in Quezon City at dawn yesterday.

According to reports, a Honda CRV had bumped the motorcycle from behind, throwing Diego Silencio off the bike and over the railing. He landed on the street in front of Camp Crame, a fall of more than 14 feet.

His unidentified companion, a woman, was dismembered after the Honda CRV dragged her body for several meters.

The Honda CRV’s driver, Achmad Sangcaan, said he was not at fault. He said he avoided a Toyota Innova that tried to overtake his vehicle, and in the process accidentally bumped the motorcycle in front of him.

Sangcaan said an American national and two other people alighted from the Innova and beat him up.

The police had to close the flyover’s southbound lane for more than two hours because of the accident. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said the lane was not totally clear until 10:40 a.m. – Michael Punongbayan, Reinir Padua
