MMC workers set picket

Rank and file employees of the Makati Medical Center (MMC) will stage a picket in front of the hospital in Makati today to protest the management’s dismissal of 77 dietary department personnel without consulting the workers and the union.

More than a hundred nurses, medical technicians, X-Ray technicians, clerks and staff members will wear black armbands and stage the protest action.

Makati Medical Center Employees Associations (Mamacea) president Willy Pulia said the employees are very disturbed with the unjust dismissal of the concerned workers.

MMC president and chief executive officer (CEO) lawyer Richard Ferrer defended the management’s dismissal of the employees saying that “they went through the legal means, we submitted notices to the labor department.”      – Michael Punongbayan
