Binay wants brains in security chief’s slay

Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay expressed gladness over reports that based on statements from witnesses, the police may have arrested the perpetrators of the September 2006 killing of his security chief.

However, he called on authorities to uncover the mastermind behind the murder of Pablo Glean, who also heads Makati City’s Business Permits and License Office (BPLO).

“Bringing in the alleged gunmen is just one step. What we want to know is, who are the handlers of this group and who ordered the killing of Lito Glean,” Binay said.

Binay, president of the United Opposition (Uno), described Glean’s killing on Sept. 16 2006 as a politically motivated murder.

He reiterated his request for investigators to focus on “Oplan Phoenix” and “Task Force Spider,” emphasizing that three weeks before he was slain, Glean reported the existence of these groups that were allegedly set to conduct “special operations” in Makati.

Binay noted that after the killing, unnamed investigators gave media statements linking Glean to an alleged coup plot in February 2006, and an alleged money dispute within the Philippine Guardians Brotherhood Association (PGBA) where the victim was an official.             – Michael Punongbayan
