Senior Inspector Lorenzo Trajano, head of the Pasig City police criminal investigation unit, said they decided to seek the NBIs help following the refusal of three male boarders to cooperate in the investigation.
A Computer Science student at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, the naked body of 19-year-old Fe Docuyanan was found in the toilet of her apartment in Pasig last Monday. She had been stabbed at least four times.
Police are questioning three young men who lived in the building and disappeared shortly after the killing.
Accompanied by a lawyer, the three male boarders appeared before Trajano four days ago but refused to give their fingerprint samples.
"Upon the advice of their lawyer, the three male boarders refused to cooperate in our investigation so we decided to seek the NBIs help in solving the case," said Trajano in an interview.
He said agents of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, who conducted field examination on the crime scene, advised him that they found several fingerprint samples in the toilet where Docuyanans body was found.
Trajano said they are hoping that fingerprint samples under the custody of the NBI would match those recovered at the crime scene so the suspects in Docuyanans rape-slay could be identified.
Trajano said they have no recourse but to let go of the three male boarders because they have no sufficient reason to hold them.
The three male boarders were invited for questioning following revelation of Docuyanans sister, Grace that the victim complained to her in the past that they were peeping on her.
Trajano said the Docuyanan sisters occupied one of the rooms in the second floor of the two-storey apartment, located at 4215 Saint Paul St., SPS Subdivision in Barangay Rosario.
The three male boarders were occupying one of the rooms on the ground floor. They rented the room for five days before Docuyanans body was found.
Trajano refused to identify the three male boarders, as he admitted they have no hard evidence as yet to link them to Docuyanans rape-slay.
But while the three male boarders refused to give their fingerprint samples, Trajano said the owner of the apartment and two other male boarders have agreed to cooperate in the investigation.
"The house owner and two other male boarders told us that they are very willing to give their fingerprint samples to clear themselves in the case. They asked us to come to the house anytime we want and get the said samples," said Trajano. Non Alquitran
