Led by MIAA assistant general manager for operations Engineer Octavio Lina, airport operations personnel thoroughly screened airport areas such as the boarding and disembarkation gates and the two runways, as well as airport equipment, including aerobridges, to inspect their safety and operability.
Checks on the electro-mechanical equipment, particularly air-conditioners, chillers, elevators and escalators, was also conducted.
Lina said the inspection was conducted to ensure that everything was in order at all the NAIA terminals.
Repair work and clearing operations on damaged equipment and airport areas will immediately be pursued.
Milenyo’s strong winds caused considerable damage to the cargo warehouses at the NAIA compound, particularly the Philippine Skylanders Inc. warehouse and the Paircargo warehouse.
Galvanized iron sheets of the two warehouses and steel structures, including the signage, collapsed at the height of the typhoon’s fury last Thursday.
Trees in certain areas of the NAIA compound were also uprooted while many had branches torn off. — Rainier Allan Ronda
