The fireworks showdown will take place from Dec. 26 to 30 at the Esplanade located inside the Bay City Central Business Park in Pasay.
"It is a grand event of world-class quality. The first ever fireworks Olympics being held here just might start a trend for us here in the city. We are more than ready to welcome other world-class activities. We are proud to host the first ever World Pyro Olympics," Pasay Mayor Wenceslao "Peewee" Trinidad said.
Spectators will be treated to a 20-minute aerial fireworks display from two competitors each night.
The aerial fireworks will be launched from barges anchored 300 meters in front of the seawall fronting the Esplanade. The spectators section is located at the Esplanade area in front of the Mall of Asia.
Trinidad said that there will be nine competing countries during the five-day competition. The participating companies will come from Australia, China, Germany, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the US.
For the grand finale, La Mancha Pyro Productions, organizers of the World Pyro Olympics, in collaboration with the nine competing groups, will perform a classical fireworks display entitled "The World Pyro Olympics Fellowship of Fire Presentation."
Participation in the World Pyro Olympics is by invitation only. The competitors are chosen on the basis of their performance in the various fireworks competitions around the world.
"Pasay City will become the arena for the best of the pyrotechnic champions from around the world as they compete with one another to determine the champion of the champions," Trinidad added.
