Girl shot dead by drug-crazed father

A jobless man, allegedly high on illegal drugs, shot dead his three-year-old daughter last Wednesday night in Valenzuela City.

Geronimo Miranda, 32, a resident of Paso de Blas, Valenzuela City, is now fighting for his life at the Valenzuela General Hospital after he tried to commit suicide.

Police prober SPO4 Henry Marteja said Miranda also shot himself in the right jaw after realizing what he did to his own daughter.

At around 9:30 p.m., the suspect asked his daughter to go with him inside the bedroom. The father locked the door, and moments later members of the household heard successive gunshots from the room.

The suspect’s relatives forcibly opened the bedroom door and saw the bloodied body of the girl on the floor near the door.

The girl’s father was lying in bed with blood oozing from his jaw, Marteja said.

Both father and daughter were brought for treatment at the Valenzuela General Hospital.

Marteja said the girl sustained at least six gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

Ferdie Ilocto, a relative of the Mirandas, surrendered to police live ammunition, five spent shells and three slugs for a caliber .22 handgun, minus the murder weapon.

"We are still investigating why the murder weapon is now missing," Marteja told The STAR.

Valenzuela City police are readying parricide charges against the suspect.
