5 injured as truck rams 2 vans in Caloocan

Five people were hurt when a wayward cargo truck hit two vans and smashed into a furniture store last Monday night in Caloocan City.

Police identified the victims as Inicito Relado Jr., 29; Alice Bernal, 41; and Bernadeth Anterano, all of Camarin Caloocan City; Pablito Lacsamana, 66, a vendor and a resident of Caloocan City; and truck driver Juvenile Riantorko, 35, a resident of Barangay Karuhatan, Valenzuela City.

According to SPO2 Ernesto Cabanayan of Caloocan City police traffic division, an Izusu cargo truck (BAS-206) driven by Riantorko was traveling at high speed from C-3 Road when it made a sudden right turn toward Maypajo on A. Mabini street.

The driver lost control of his vehicle, which hit a Hyundai Starex van (WGH-278) driven by Relado with two passengers, Bernal and Anterano. All occupants of the van suffered injuries.

Riantorko tried to avoid dragging the Starex, but in the process hit a parked Nissan Urvan (XBB-993) before crashing into the TK Commercial furniture store and destroying the display inside.

Lacsamana, who was selling balot by the roadside, was hit by debris.

Those injured, including the truck driver, were brought to the Diosdado Macapagal Hospital. They were released after receiving treatment for their injuries.

Police arrested the truck driver and are set to file charges of reckless imprudence resulting to injury and damage to property. – Pete Laude
