Two robbers nabbed in Cubao

Two robbers believed to be behind the spate of robbery cases on passenger jeepneys plying the Cubao-Antipolo City route were arrested Thursday, minutes after they robbed a waiter of P25,000 and valuables.

The suspects, Jenson Escolla, 22, and Joshua Santos, 31, were waiting for another passenger jeepney to rob at the corner of Pinatubo st. and Aurora Blvd. in Quezon City when cornered by police operatives hours after they robbed Julius Guevarra, 26.

Superintendent Bernabe Balba, Cubao police station commander, said Santos and Escalla yielded a caliber .38 revolver, a Nokia 7650 cellphone, a fan knife, a Cartier watch and two silver bracelets.

Balba said the two suspects are members of the dreaded robbery gang victimizing passenger jeepneys plying the Manila-Cubao, Marikina-Cogeo and Cubao-Antipolo routes.

In his report to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Balba said Guevarra was on board a Marikina City-bound jeepney when four suspects announced the heist at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The robbers divested Guevarra of his cellphone worth P13,000, a watch worth P3,600, cash and other important belongings.

Guevarra sought the help of patrolling beat policemen from the Cubao police station and they tracked down the suspects.

The two suspects surrendered peacefully but their two other companions were able to escape. — Non Alquitran
