Records from the citys Environment and Sanitation Center showed that from the average daily garbage collection of 650 cubic meters, the volume increased to as much as 750 to 800 cubic meters following the holiday season.
While the present situation could not be considered alarming, the mayor appealed for continued cooperation from city residents to prevent a garbage crisis from improper trash disposal.
"I am appealing to all Las Piñeros to take this issue on the environment seriously. Discipline and cooperation are what we need to keep our city clean, healthy and free from life threatening diseases," Aguilar said.
At the same time, she reminded residents and owners of business establishments to bring out their segregated garbage only on the scheduled collection day and time.
"Garbage disposal and collection system is a shared responsibility between the residents and local government," Aguilar stressed.
